Sumatra PDF Portable 0.8.1 has been released. It's the lightweight Sumatra PDF viewer packaged as a portable app, so you can view PDFs on the go. This release updates Sumatra PDF to the latest version adding in more languages, search, table of contents, printing improvements and more. It's packaged in PortableApps.com Format for easy use from any portable device and integration with the PortableApps.com Suite. And it's open source and completely free.
Features
Sumatra PDF is a slim, free, open-source PDF viewer for Windows. Sumatra has a minimalistic design but still has most of the features you need from a PDF viewer. It's small and starts up very fast.
New in This Release
Sumatra PDF has been updated to the latest release (release notes).
PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format
Sumatra PDF Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Great! Now it saves
Great! Now it saves preferences.
Thanks a lot, PortableApps!!!!
cool
I like it that it now saves things correctly but I dont like the built in update checker.
And it has a language switch so the launcher could support the upcoming platform's language system.
The built-in auto update is
The built-in auto update is just WRONG. I thought this looked like a promising app after using the last version, but screw it, if the auto-update is staying I'm going back to Foxit (which can easily be made portable). Now Sumatra is disappointing and quite intrusive.
AT LEAST GIVE THE OPTION TO TURN THE UPDATER OFF. Isn't it obvious?
Also, when I tried to extract
Also, when I tried to extract this my firewall popped up a message that Explorer has changed and wants to access the web.
Sumatra is now deleted.
Few Things
First off, we didn't write SumatraPDF here, you'll have to head over to the site linked on the SumatraPDF Portable page and talk in their forums.
Second, capitals usually don't fly well. There's no need, they only make you appear rude and obnoxious though that may not be at all how you intend to come off.
Finally, comments on news stories are usually missed, so any bugs, etc, with the portable version should be in the forums. This isn't really anything direct with the portable version, so as I said head over to their forums and there might already be some talk of it and plans to disable it.
Welcome to PortableApps.com, by the way.
Thanks for the welcome. I
Thanks for the welcome.
I wrote my post to warn others about this rather than get a message through to the software designers. Sorry for flying off the handle, but I hate intrusive software that doesn't even give you the option to disable it.
If they fix this irritating update check I'll try Sumatra again. Meanwhile, I've gone back to Foxit.
I Agree
As Tim's said below, if there's no way to disable auto-update currently, it certainly will be disappointing for me as well. However the developer may have be excited to get the auto-update in, and is planning to allow disabling it in a future version.
Hi Pat. I hope they release
Hi Pat. I hope they release another version soon with the option to disable the check. I will give them the benefit of the doubt this time and hope you are correct when you say they may have been over-enthusiastic to get it released with this new "feature" built in.
And really, I'm just disappointed. I found Sumatra quite recently and was happy to find a small, nifty little app which did all I needed a reader to do without bloat.
Coming
For the record, there's a few other users that have displayed there disappointment. The developer has noted he'll try to add the feature here.
Thanks for the link. ;)
Thanks for the link.
Thanks

Confused...
Are you saying that the new version does an autoupdate check and there is NO way to disable it?
If this is true it would be a show stopper for me.
Non-Internet apps do not connect to the internet, Period
John, is the poster mistaken?
If not, this is an example of why ALL releases should have a Pre-Release candidate. An app is not truly portable if it's going to make internet connections on a host machine and you don't even know it. How do you answer the question, "Why is my firewall telling me your 'PDF reader' is connecting to the internet?". I don't even let Adobe do it!
Tim
Tim, yes -- correct. No
Tim, yes -- correct. No option to disable it. Every time you start the app it tries to connect.
