[Fixed] Stelarium WinVista 24.1.0 keeps attempting to install and is really 0.19.3.1

Stelarium version for WinVista 24.1.0 is in fact 0.19.3.1 under the hood. It installs properly but retains the 19.3.1 version so an update search for PortableApps keeps finding it in the list to (re)install.

[Fixed] Stellarium 25.1 does not run on Win 7 x64

When executing StellariumPortable.exe: The splash screen shows up and vanishes as well as the StellariumPortable.exe *32 process.

I got the error 0xc0000005 when trying to run ↓↓

X:\PortableApps\StellariumPortable\App\Stellarium\Stellarium.exe

When running ↓↓ the process Stellarium.exe vanishes immediately (in both cases).

X:\PortableApps\StellariumPortable\App\StellariumLegacy\Stellarium.exe

Upgraded & fresh installation. I had to VxKex it to make it work.

[Fixed] Stellarium 1.22.5 DSO catalog error on Win7

After updating the app a pop up window is saying that catalog 3.18 is found when 3.17 is spected.

According to:
https://github.com/Stellarium/stellarium-data/releases
3.18 is to be used with 1.2 version.

I have solved the issue by downloading 3.17 and putting it into:
~\Portableapps\StellariumPortable\App\Stellarium\nebulae\default

BPBible Portable 0.5.3.1 not starting on Windows 7

Hello

I have a problem with the portable version
"BPBiblePortable_0.5.3.1.paf.exe" under Windows 7.
The home screen goes up, then no program launch.

If I install the version: "bpbible-0.5.3.1-setup.exe".
I have no problem with the PBBible software.

The problem comes from the portable version that does not work with
W7. Even if I change the compatibility of the exe with lower versions.

Gramps 5.1.5 - Avast antivirus detects threat in libgio-2.0-0.dll

I use Gramps portable on Windows 11
New version (5.1.5) installed correctly.
But at first run Avast Antivirus software warns that libgio-2.0-0.dll contains threat "IDP:Generic".
I add an exception to Avast and it's ok.
Then Gramps runs correctly (but I didn't check many features).

I reported a bug to Gramps -> see https://gramps-project.org/bugs/view.php?id=12573
I add a screnshot there with the avast detail report.

Gramps support answer is that the bug should be fixed by PortableApps.

Gramps - Outdated screenshot & changed donation link

On the portableapps Gramps page ( https://portableapps.com/apps/education/gramps_portable ) I notice some issues.

1. The Screenshot ( https://cdn2.portableapps.com/GrampsPortable.png ) is from a really old version of Gramps, if possible can it be updated to use one of the screenshots from ( https://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/index.php?title=Features ) maybe this screenshot if you want the same pedigree view https://www.gramps-project.org/wiki/images/7/7a/ChartsCategory-pedigreev...

2. The link for the "Make a Donation" - Support Gramps development

3. The Description is shown here as

Gramps Ubuntu Fonts MIssing

Hi,

Whenever I load up Gramps Portable on Ubuntu (Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS 64-bit) all I get is squares instead of any writing.

I prefer to use the portable version for ease, but when I install the normal, non portable version via their website, it works fine. I have tried searching Google, but as it seems to be central to Gramps Portable, I thought this was the best place to ask.

Does anyone else have this issue or know of anyway it can be fixed?

Any help would be really appreciated.

[Fixed] Gramps doesn't use system default language

I have installed latest version of Gramps Portable (5.1.4) with the additional languages option enabled, but the program starts in English and not in the default language of my system (Dutch).

How can I make Gramps start up in Dutch?

Is there a place we can submit a special installer note to this website?

In the Standalone installer for Gramps Portable (recently updated from 2015 Gramps version 3.4.9 to 2020 version 5.1.3), there are some configuration quirks for non-English users.

As described on your Languages page, the .ini setting for DefaultIfNotExists must be customized for the Gramps interface to show another language.

8. If this file does not exist, then [Language]:DefaultIfNotExists is read, environment variables parsed in it, and set as the value for %PAL:LanguageCustom%.

But, in addition, files must be placed to enable spellcheck dictionaries and affix grammar . The dialect-specific Dictionary (.dic) and Affix (.aff) files must be copied to the appropriate Python PyEnchant subfolder.

Following tests in an English and another test in a French Windows system, we posted some instructions in our forum.

We have not done structured testing using the Portable Apps Platform. But the Standalone also did not adapt to the French user's OS language. Its interface still defaulted to English ... and so French had to be selected manually.

[Fixed] Stellarium resets some settings if run via the platform

Hello friends!

Some Stellarium's settings (left panel) are reseted if we run Stellarium from the PA Platform. Nothing happens if we run the executable from its containing folder, or from the taskbar's shortcut.

The most flagrant setting is the language, I set it to French and it went to English every time I run it (via the platform). I've also noticed the plugins' tab, checked and unchecked plugins are reseted to their defaults.
The "View's settings" don't seem affected.

OS: Windows 7 32 & 64 bit.
Platform: 16.1.1 - 17.0 - 17.0.1 - 17.1 - 17.1.1 (old and fresh installations).
Stellarium versions: 0.13.3 - 0.18.2 - 0.19.1.1 - 0.20.2
Firewall: (Seem irrelevant, but..) Peerblock 1.2

Portable Apps for teachers (Moodle, Nextcloud, OpenBoard)

Many OpenSource applications are actually portable. You just need to copy their installation to your USB key and take care to SUBST you USB drive letter to some fixed letter e.g. Z:/ before launching the Portable Apps shell. If some trouble remains most of the time you can cope with them adding the USB key the missing dlls and launching the app thru a .bat command file that takes care to assign the DOS variables TMP HOME PATH etc to some folder under Z:/

In the years I used to solve my problems that way and built nice USB keys that assisted me when changing classroom (you do this very often in some countries!). Portable apps were the first cornerstone building this. Another cornerstone in making your teaching support classroom-independent is the adoption of a cloud storage.

Upgrade needed for GoldenDict otherwise it is useless

Hi,

The current version of GoldenDict distributed with PortableApps (1.0.1) does not work out-of-the-box.

When accessing Wiki* websites, it shows error :
"Query error: XML parse error: unexpected end of file at 1,1"

Work around is to switch to httpS versions of the websites:
https://superuser.com/questions/927740/goldendict-xml-parse-error-on-wik...

Unfortunately, GoldenDict is still not working after this modifiction and results in error:
"Query error: SSL handshake failed".

Recommended solution is to switch to new version :
https://github.com/goldendict/goldendict/issues/608

So please can someone make a more recent version available in PortableApps updates or teach me how to do that?

Stellarium Screenshot Folder

I might have queried this before without resolution.
Within the app (installed on drive D:\Portableapps) if I chose a specific folder for screenshots, say D:\Temp, Stellarium always reverts to creating a folder "Documents" with subfolder "Pictures" on the root of D:

Might there be a resolution please?
