Java (jPortable) does not work

Hi,

I installed jPortable in CommonFiles using the instructions provided.
I went to Tools -> Options -> Advanced and choose the Oracle Java there.

When opening any table in Base database I get Java runtime error and the table does not open. It seems that the jPortabile is either old or corrupt and cannot be used with LibreOffice.

What can I do?

Libre Office Length of Instalation path: If too long leads to crash!

Hello together,

I found out that if the Installation path of the Portable App Directory is longer than 44 Characters a libre office installation that belongs to that Portable App Directory crashes right at the start of application. Hence, the workaround is quite obvious but was a hard lesson to find the cause of the crash.
Reproducable on:
Windows 11 (Version 24H2, OS Build 261006901, 64-bit Edition)
.NET Framework: 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, 4.8 / .NET Core: - / .NET: 8 / Java: 1.8 x86,1.8 x64

Libre Office:
Version: 25.2.3.2 (x86) / LibreOffice Community
Build ID: bbb074479178df812d175f709636b368952c2ce3

Jumbo spreadsheet support missing?

The portable version of LO Calc doesn't seem to do the Jumbo spreadsheet experimental feature. Experimental features can be turned on in the main LO app, but calc doesn't have the option in the UI to enable the Jumbo sheet size. If you enable it in the advanced settings it doesn't honor it dies at 1M rows.

I can't seem to find anything that lists this as an removed feature or as known limitation.

Any insight would be appreciated. I have some ppl that really can only deal with anything resembling data when presented as a spreadsheet.

For John to note, if wanting to pack LibreOffice 32-bit for the 25.8 series then you need to go LibreOffice download archive and get the 32-bit implementation there.

Can 'install' portable application to path that includes "Program Files" string, but cannot launch

Description: I recently downloaded LibreOffice version 25.2.3.0 Portable MultilingualStandard (*.paf.exe). I am running Windows 10 (x64).
Today I ran the EXE file and chose to install to C:\Program Files (portable)\LibreOfficePortable Note that while C:\Program Files is a system folder C:\Program Files (portable) is a folder that I created myself, with no special properties.

The EXE file 'installed'/extracted all of the files to the specified path.

However, when I tried to launch directly from the end-of-installation dialogue box, or when I try to run any of the 'installed' EXE files, I get an error:

LibreOffice Portable cannot be run from inside C:\Program Files.  This location is for standard local software only.  Please use this application from another location.

Steps to Reproduce: 1. Download portable installer 2. 'Install' to "C:\Program Files (portable)\LibreOfficePortable" 3. Try to run application.

Actual Results: Unable to run application.
Get error in message box:

LibreOffice Portable cannot be run from inside C:\Program Files.  This location is for standard local software only.  Please use this application from another location.

Expected Results: There are THREE problems:
(i) The documentation does not match the behaviour. If there is a need to prevent installation into paths such as "C:\Program Files (portable)\LibreOfficePortable", it should be specified in the documentation.
(ii) The portable installer allows extraction of the files to a path from which they cannot be run. The criteria to assess the path should be the same for the installer as for the launch algorithm. If the application would not be launchable from a specified path, then the installer should EITHER refuse to extract to that path OR extract only after showing a warning to the user and asking for specific confirmation.
(iii) The launch algorithm seems to be incorrectly checking only the first few characters of the path, rather than properly assessing what the top-level directory actually is!!! This is indicated by the display of the wrong information in the error message!

Reproducible: Always

User Profile Reset: No

Additional Info: "Known issues" Long Paths and Odd Characters - LibreOffice doesn't like running from overly long paths. So, while it will work directly from your desktop... if you have it within a subdirectoy on your desktop, it will probably fail claiming that some files are corrupted. LibreOffice also doesn't like certain characters like dollar signs in the path. This is why it's best to have the LibreOfficePortable directory in the root of your drive, or within a PortableApps directory in the root of your drive. Serious Bug in LibreOffice 25.8.0 – do not pack this one

Hi John,

If I were you I would forget about packaging LibreOffice 25.8.0 it has a bug where it consistently crashes if the user attempts to utilise the 'Tabbed' Interface. Bug report on the issue can be seen here: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167956 If you look at Comment 7 in the report you will see that the bug will be fixed in LibreOffice 25.8.1

Also see the comment by "buovjaga" in this Reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/libreoffice/comments/1mvm35q/libreoffice_latest... He says that release of version 25.8.1 will be accelerated. In all, it seems to me you would serve users best by skipping packaging LibreOffice 25.8.0

Update 25.2.2 stalls LibreOffice from opening

I was automatically updated to V25.2.2 in Libre Office Portable this morning. I know this because when I tried to open a .docx folder, it stalled and I was brought to your update page at https://whatsnew.libreoffice.org/25.2.2/. I didn't realize this portable version updates itself.
Anyway, now when I click on either a .doc or .docx file I have, I see a flash of something I can't make out for a millisecond, and it takes the file roughly 10-12 seconds to open. Before the update, the file opened immediately.
I'm using Windows 10 Pro V22h2. Of course I restarted my pc to see if that helped things, but I think there might be an issue with the program caused by this update.

i have the last 24 portable version , i have read how backup the libre office install version but on the portable I guess the settings are store there

a:\LibreOfficePortable24\App\DefaultData\settings\user\

zipped , changed some setting , restore all the file and folder inside , nothing
i can't restore preferences

The list of possible installation languages in LibreOffice 25.2.1 Portable MultilingualAll is missing quite a few languages like Dutch. This removes the method of just installing the selected language plus English (using the "Remove Extra Languages" during installation)

Can't install Grammalecte extension

Hi,

I've tried many times to install Grammalecte extension and I alway got an error "an error occured during file oppening"

I've also tried WittingTools and got almost the same (with a bit more precisions) :
an error occurred during file opening at
C:/cygwin64/home/buildslave/source/libo-core/ucbhelper/source/provider/simpleioerrorrequest.cxx:35"

I had tried on "fresh and still" 24.8.2.4 version, but even a backward to 24.3.2.2 version gave the same.

I can install other extensions like AlternateSearch without any problem.
